Pleading Back-to-School Brain

ETA: Contest runs through Sunday midnight CST!

I completely forgot today was my day to blog. I hope this helps you forgive me. I think it is my new favorite website ever.

Since it's back to school, how about a quiz? I got the idea when a cherry-red Impala came through the pick-up line at school. The 5th grade boys and I were going crazy. The other teachers looked at us weird. Whatever. I love old cars.

So. Match the car with the show. Email me your answers at mfechter at gmail dot com. I'll pick a random winner and you can have your choice of this or this. (Entries limited to wherever Cafe Press ships, sorry! I know they ship to Canada.)

1. 1969 Dodge Charger

2. 1974 Dodge Challenger (When Googling, I saw that NCIS has a Challenger, too. Not that one.)

3. 1964 Pontiac GTO (though it's a 1966 Chevelle in the ad)

4. 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner

5. 1975 Ford Gran Torino

6. 1970 Plymouth Barracuda

Choices: Memphis Beat, Nash Bridges, Jericho, Dukes of Hazard, Starsky and Hutch, Burn Notice

Have fun!

Supernatural Shenanigans

You know, after what happened the other night while I was watching Supernatural, I think I've finally made my peace with the hiatus. It's been well-documented that I am a wuss, so enjoying this show has always been a bit of a stretch for me (although Jared and Jensen have helped me overcome my phobias just enough to keep watching...hmmm, Supernatural as therapy. Who knew?)

Has anything weird ever happened to you while you were watching something spooky? To date, I've had two freakish coincidences. One was when a light on the show started to flicker, Sam and Dean gave each other the significant "a-ha, demon presence!" look and my power went out shortly therafter. But since I was watching TV during a major thunderstorm, the electrical outage wasn't exactly a mystery worthy of calling Bobby. Then there was the time I was watching the first season DVDs with my husband after the kids were in bed and supposed to be asleep. We were right at the beginning of "Home," where a single mom moves into the Winchester's old house. Almost simultaneously, the girl on the television told her mother that there's "something in my closet" and my OWN daughter showed up in our doorway blurting, "there's something in my closet." (I admit, that freaked me out enough that I made my husband go check because I wasn't about to!)

But here's my latest. (And while I'm sure someone with a background in how televisions and DVD players work could explain this scientifically, I cannot. Big coward that I am, I'm just glad I wasn't alone.) A girlfriend was over who has only seen a couple of episodes before, so of course I pulled out my DVDs. We'd been watching late into the night and everyone else in the house was asleep. We half-heartedly commented that we should probably turn it off because it was so late, but then we talked ourselves into one more episode. In the middle of the episode, the picture went wonky--first it was staticky, then it went completely green (which is a new one on me) although we could still hear Sam and Dean discussing that what they had on their hands was a ghost problem, which of course meant digging up the bones. So I stood up, told her I was sorry that we didn't get to finish the episode, but that it was probably for the best since we both had to be up in the morning. I popped out the DVD to put away and all of the sudden, Sam and Dean appeared on the television, digging up a body (no sound, but the picture was clear as day.) I looked from the DVD in my hand to my friend, who brightly announced, "Gotta go!" I was right on her heels, hitting the TV remote over my shoulder as I left.

I realize this isn't on par with, say, my couch levitating or Zuul the gatekeeper appearing in my fridge, but watching two people dig up a grave on my TV after I'd already removed the DVD was sufficiently bizarre enough that I think I'm ready for a break from watching creepy shows. Say, from now until nine p.m. on Friday, September 24...

At long last--a soundtrack

Amazon listed the Supernatural score for sale. It's not available until September 7, but y'all. The names of the songs:

Luci'fer, You Got Some 'Splainin' To Do

Dean's Dirty Organ

Demon Agitato, Mr. Ostinato

Isn't It Bromantic?

Now, I know this is just a score, but I wish we had a full-on soundtrack. I'd need these songs, please:

"Back in Black"

"Carry On, Wayward Son"

"Bad Company"

"Silent Lucidity"

"She Bring Me Love"--the love theme from "Route 666"

"Don't Fear the Reaper"

"Peace of Mind" from the end of "Hook Man"

"Bad Moon Rising" from the end of season 1

"Renegade" from the end of "Nightshifter"

"Look at You" from "Heart"

What songs would you need on your soundtrack?

Is Season Six here yet?

It's been a very busy summer, and the past couple of months seem to have passed by in a flash. So why does it feel like it's been FOR-EV-ER since the Supernatural finale aired? I'm ready to see what happens in season six!

That said, I have found other obsessions to pass my time over the summer.

1. I believe it was Natalie who said she loved Haven. I know MJ has been watching it too. This is the best summer series I've seen this year. I love the characters, the setting, the weirdness of what's going on, the wondering what "the troubles" are.

2. Warehouse 13 (one of the creators of which is Jane Espenson, who has worked on many of my other favorites like Buffy, Battlestar Galactica, Caprica and Gilmore Girls) is just a hoot to watch. I love the concept that they protect some of history's most dangerous artifacts, and I like the twists they come up with -- like that H.G. Wells is a woman! Eddie McClintock, who plays Agent Pete Lattimer, is going to be at Dragon*Con, so I'm going to try to see him speak. His character is a riot. And I love the character of Claudia Donovan, the essence of geeky cool.

3. I got a newer model TiVo which allows me to stream from my Netflix account. Every one in awhile I find a show that so sucks me in that I go on a crazy viewing binge because I absolutely MUST know what happens next. Though it's not supernatural/paranormal in nature, over this past weekend I started watching Spartacus: Blood and Sand and watched the entire first season in three days. I can't wait for season 2, which won't be out until sometime next year! Wah! There's fighting (I'm a chick who likes a good battle movie), lots of hot gladiators (hello, Spartacus and Crixus, I'm looking at you), that underdog element I so love, and a forbidden love story to root for. I'll just have to satisfy myself with fan vids until new episodes become available on Netflix.

4. Counting down the days until Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins comes out. This is the final book in the trilogy that began with The Hunger Games, and I can barely wait to see how it all turns out. And which boy Katniss will choose. :) Only two more weeks to wait.

5. Waiting for my own book, Winter Longing, to hit store shelves, which happens tomorrow. I've been fortunate to get some good reviews, including an exciting one in Publishers Weekly.

6. Looking forward to Dragon*Con. I'm having a costume made. I'm going to be dressing as Kahlen Amnell from Legend of the Seeker.

How have you been passing your Supernatural-less months?

News for T-minus Seven Weeks and Counting...

In The Ausiello Files CW report from the recent press tour, Dawn Ostroff says she hopes Supernatural will go on for more than one more season.

Various sources, including here announce Sebastian Roché (Fringe) as a guest star on Supernatural. (He tweeted that he was in Vancouver doing the show.)

Wanna wallow in envy? Check out the teaser trailer for "Supernatural: The Animation" at Warner Bros.' Japanese site for the project. Click the "Trailer" box on the right. They did a great job with Sam and Dean! I wish this wasn't only being released in Japan...

Portrait Magazine (scroll down a little and look on the right, "September Cover") has a poll to see who we want featured on the September cover. Tom Welling is way ahead of Jensen Ackles, and Jared Padalecki doesn't seem to have a chance. Voting goes to August 15.

While casing some Torchwood news, I discovered that John Shiban, writer for such great Supernatural episodes as "Tall Tales" and "Folsom Prison Blues," will be writing some Torchwood eps in the upcoming season.

Check out Matt Cohen's Playboy Fragrances ad campaign. Click to play, then click "Cast of Characters" to watch him talk about seduction. :) (Safe for work!)

Zap2it has an in-depth article about Jason Manns and how his friendship with Jensen has affected his music and movie career. No new info for those of us who follow Jason for his own sake, but some interesting quotes nonetheless. :)

We'll close with a cute vid of Jim, Misha, and Jensen:
